Scope and Contents Rini Templeton was a revolutionary artist whose graphic works are still used around the world in progressive publications. She died at 51 in Mexico City on June 15, 1986. She had a cabin on Pilar Hill, south of Taos. Rini contributed drawings to the New Mexico Review during the early 1970s when I wrote for it. She and I put out the last three NMR issues in 1972. Scope and Contents Tom was my Upper Ranchitos next-door neighbor from 1969 until I left my house in 1989. Tom taught me much about Taos. He kept his horse in my tiny fields for years. Scope and Contents Mel Howard was an actor, director, AD, and a film professor. He gained acclaim for a 1975 film he acted in with Carol Kane called Hester Street. I met Mel through my Hollywood pal, Leo Garen. Mel almost directed my novel The Wizard of Loneliness. We talked about doing film projects together. Scope and Contents My best friend for over three decades, Mike died in N.Y. on September 22, 1997. We hiked, hunted, and fished almost yearly in Taos. Scope and Contents Alan was a film director noted for films like All The President's Men and Sophie's Choice. In 1965 he hired me to write a screenplay for my own novel, The Sterile Cuckoo. (See my SCREENPLAY FILES.) Sterile Cuckoo was the first film Pakula directed. He was killed at 70 in a freak auto accident in November 1998 when a piece of pipe snapped off the roadway by a car's tire went through his window and struck him.
