ALAN PAKULA, November 19, 1998

 File — Box: 131, Folder: 19

Scope and Contents

Alan was a film director noted for films like All The President's Men and Sophie's Choice. In 1965 he hired me to write a screenplay for my own novel, The Sterile Cuckoo. (See my SCREENPLAY FILES.) Sterile Cuckoo was the first film Pakula directed. He was killed at 70 in a freak auto accident in November 1998 when a piece of pipe snapped off the roadway by a car's tire went through his window and struck him. My 3-page Personal Tribute to him was published on The World Socialist Web Site. This file includes a copy of my tribute and a brief correspondence between me and David Walsh, the arts editor on that Web Site. (Pages are numbered 1-9 at bottom of page.)
