STEPHANIE SONORA, December 8, 1990
File — Box: 131, Folder: 6
Scope and Contents
Stephanie was my partner during the mid-1970s. She had a colorful life and had lived all over the world. She hung out in New York at the Cedar Bar with artists like Jackson Pollock, de Kooning, Clifford Still, Franz Kline, Salvatore Scarpitti. She dated movie actor Ralph Meeker. Rarely have I known anyone so full of life. Stephanie fought cancer for many years and died at 58. My novel The Magic Journey is dedicated to her. Her photographic portrait is in The Last Beautiful Days of Autumn. This folder contains: 1.) 2 Handwritten drafts (3 pages and 2 pages) of my eulogy and obituary for her. 2.) A typed obituary with hand corrections, 3 pages. 3.) A clean 2-page typed obituary. 4.) My typed 2-page eulogy. 5.) Also two copies of the Taos News obituary. 6.) A scribbled note of a phone call to me from Steff's son Tino Sonora telling me she died that morning. (Pages in file are numbered 1-12 at bottom of page. (See in my NOVEL NOTES ARCHIVES the PINK MEAD NOTEBOOK, 1990-1991-THREE that has my interviews with Taoseños about Stephanie's life.)
