Scope and Contents In this folder are: 1.) 18 scribbled envelope notes. 2.) One page on Chelsey McFarland's animals. 3.) A six-page list of Voice of the Butterfly characters. 4.) And 6 pages of random Butterfly novel notes, mostly about Dennis Clinton (Avery) who eventually disappeared from the book. Scope and Contents This is a random batch of newspaper clippings of stories I thought I could use for the Democracy/Butterfly novel. Stories about a rare butterfly halting a development; embezzling; CPA swindles; drought; check kiting; mercury in trout; investment scams; satanism; ban on female priests; S&L crisis; impoverished workers. All grist for my novelist's mill.

MIDNIGHT RETURN, BILLY HAYES, May 1995

Scope and Contents 47 handwritten notebook lined pages. I worked for years on a sequal to the 1978 film Midnight Express. Billy Hayes was the subject of that film, and from 1994-2001 he and I collaborated on the sequal screenplay (Midnight Return). So far (2011) the sequal has not been made. I scribbled the 47 handwritten notes in this folder during talks with Billy in Los Angeles on May 2, 1995. I was trying to learn from them. There's also a few of my own attempts to describe bawdy sex on 4 envelopes. All my life I've wanted to write sexy erotic passages, and pretty much failed completely.
