Scope and Contents

In this notebook: 1.) List of some songs I play on the guitar. 2.) 6 pages of notes for my speech on March 22, 1995 at an "Image of the American West" conference in Colorado Springs. Speech was titled: "Everything I Always Wanted to Know About the West, I learned in New York City." An abridged version of this speech was published in "Dancing on the Stones." 3.) 21 pages written in May 1996 about my open heart surgery in 1994, in fictional form: "The Longest Night of my Life." A non-fiction essay with the same title was published in "Dancing on the Stones." 4.) 3 pages of notes on The Voice of the Butterfly novel. 5.) 22 pages of notes critiquing a screenplay, Katu, by Jean-Pierre Dutilleux. (See KATU SCRIPTS, BOX 50, FOLDERS 11-13 and RELATED CORRESPONDENCE in BOX 108, FOLDER 19.) 6.) 6 pages of notes for an amorphous new novel.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
