NOVEL NOTES, 1961-2008

 Series

Scope and Contents

Over the years I scribbled lots of notes in notebooks and on the backs of envelopes. I usually typed up the envelope notes in order to have them accessible in clean type. Sometimes I cross-indexed these typed notes on 5 x 7 index cards. Often I geared my personal journals/diaries toward a particular project, then made note cards cross-indexing info from those journals (some of these can be found elsewhere in my archives). My methods were both orderly and haphazard. Yet note-taking and journaling helped a lot. I often wrote dozens of variations on a theme in my notebooks trying to get a handle, find a starting point. I dated my typed-up notes catch-as-can-catch, so it's difficult now to be certain of dates. Elsewhere in these archives (especially in my MANUSCRIPT and SCREENPLAY files) are various accumulations of my notes, research notes, and random writings in notebooks connected to the various projects I was working on. (NOTE: MANY OF MY NOTES IN THIS SECTION OF THE ARCHIVES AREN'T JUST FOR NOVELS, THEY ARE FOR NON-FICTION WORKS AND FOR SCREENPLAYS ALSO.)
