Scope and Contents

This notebook contains: 1.) Phone messages scattered throughout. 2.) The first 2 pages of my dismal novel Duende, or Danny and the Dancer, unsuccessful aberrations of The Empanada Brotherhood. Followed by: 3.) 10 pages of riffing on Danny and the Dancer. 4.) 5 pages of notes on a possible autobiography. 5.) 11 more pages on Danny and the Dancer (or Duende?)(or Empanada); 6.) 3 more pages of aimless autobiography. 7.) A 3-page self critique of Voice of the Butterfly. 8.) A two-page list of car accidents I've experienced or that friends were in. 9.) 2 pages of notes on Pilar Rodriguez, documentary filmmaker who included an interview with me in a film she made about Jim Sagel. 10.) A 4-page talk I gave at Hamilton College, my alma mater, thanking people for my 2000 honorary degree. 11.) 3-page critique of a Gustave Biraben film script. 12.) 3 pages of notes written May 23, 2000 for a forward to Edward Wittemore's novel, Quinn's Shanghai Circus. 13.) A 7-page draft of an article about my first summer out west eventually published in the Arizona Republic on July 16, 2000. 14.) 16 pages for an autobiography based on my life's health issues written June 7, 2000. 15.) 20 pages of notes for an essay to be titled "A Eulogy for my Funeral." (Another botched attempt at autobiography.) 15.) 3 pages of novel notes. 16.) 5 pages of notes that I referred to when video interviewed by Doug Dreishpoon (curator of Buffalo's Albright-Knox Museum) on June 21, 2000 for a series about the old Taos art scene for the Mandelman-Ribak Foundation. 17.) 4 pages written June 25, 2000 about Jorge's funeral in my botched version of Empanada Brotherhood called "Duende." Or maybe "Danny and the Dancer." 18.) 7 pages of autobiography/memoir talking about my dad and my mother, Monique, who died August 4, 1942.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
