RED MEAD NOTEBOOK, 1995-1996

 File — Box: 132, Folder: 10

Scope and Contents

This notebook has: 1.) the first 15 pages of an American Blood screenplay I wrote for Laray Mayfield. (See AMERICAN BLOOD SCRIPTS in BOX 108, FOLDERS 25-30, and RELATED CORRESPONDENCE in BOX 50, FOLDERS 2-10.) 2.) 39 pages of notes from a trip to Wes Jackson's Land Institute's Prairie Festival in Kansas, May 25, 1996. Speakers included Wendall Berry, José Lutzenberger, Angus Wright and Wes Jackson. Afterwards, I traveled to Mattfield Green, an experiment in living featured in William Least Heat-Moon's book PrairyErth. 3.) Last few pages (35-37, dated May 28, 1996) are notes on Oakley, KS, Prairie Dog Town, a horrible highway wildlife zoo and museum that I later satirized in an essay, "Whole Lotta Fun in Kansas," published by UNM Press in "Dancing on the Stones."
