Ann Nolan Clark Manuscripts

Scope and Content Collection consists of three manuscripts of a book written by Nolan on Father Eusebio Francisco Kino (1645-1711) entitled "Father Kino: Priest to the Pimas." Kino was a major figure in the history of Southeast Arizona. One manuscript is handwritten, the second is typed with handwritten corrections, and the third is a typed copy of the final draft.

Battle of Mesilla Letters

Scope and Content The collection consists of a newspaper article describing the battle at Mesilla, AZ. On the back of the article is a hand written note from a person who was in Mesilla at the time. He writes to his sister, Mrs. J. A. Roundy, in Shelby, Colorado. Included is another handwritten note to his sister.

D. M. Riordan Papers,

Abstract The Riordan records include business and personal correspondence relating to Denis Mathew 'Matt' Riordan's milling and railroading businesses at Flagstaff, Arizona, in the 1880s. Additional correspondence reflects Riordan's family and personal relationships after he left Flagstaff in 1897. Some material relates to Riordan's position as the Fort Defiance Indian Agent (Navajo) from 1882-1884.

Francisco Johnson Oral History

Scope and Contents This collection consists of four interviews conducted with Francisco Johnson of the Tohono O’odham nation, a native speaker of the Ko:lodi Tohono O’odham language variant and a scu-wu:sotatkam (healing singer). Mr. Johnson was approximately 75 years old at the time of the interviews, which were conducted circa 1968 by an unidentified linguistics student. John A. Clark Papers

Clark, Surveyor of the Territory of New Mexico, a typescript of the journals, and a Confederate Army broadside from 1862. The 25 journals contain 1,943 handwritten diary pages, 48 hand drawn maps, about 50 pages, notes, expenses, lists of distances and miscellaneous sketches. Scope and Content The Rachel Walcott papers represent a bureaucratic dialogue between various government agencies concerning the murder of Samuel T. Walcott and James McNally, allegedly by two Navajo Indians on March 31, 1884, in the Territory of Arizona. The Indians, Osh-ka-ni-ne and Ten-nai-tso-si were pursued and arrested on July 10, and July 18, 1884.
