Letters from Calvin Francis (Frank) Allen to Caroline (Carrie) Hadley written during their courtship, 1884-1887. The 163 letters mostly were sent from Allen in New Mexico to Hadley in Indiana. Frank Allen worked as a railroad engineer and attorney during his time in New Mexico. The letters discuss personal and family matters, but also provide a unique look into social life in territorial New Mexico. Collection consists of letters, 1906-1910. The bulk of the letters were written by Frank Averill to his future wife, May Wickham, 1906-1907. These letters discuss mining in Huron, Arizona; daily events and weather in Huron, Arizona; and Frank Averill and May Wickham's marriage plans. Letters dated 1910 are written by Mamie Wittick Maxwell and Claude Wittick to May Wickham Averill and express their sympathy at the death of their brother Frank Averill.

A hand-drawn, carbon copy map with original pencil notations by Major Frank Tompkins who was a survivor of the Francisco "Pancho" Villa raid on Columbus, New Mexico in 1916. Tompkins sent this map east to aid in his family's understanding of the battle. Tompkins later authored the book Chasing Villa.
