Abstract
Viles was the owner of the Mountain View Ranch, a popular dude ranch, near Cowles, New Mexico. His journals begin in 1898 when Viles took a trip to Alaska. They pick up again in 1912 and continue until his death in 1950. The diaries have been transcribed by Meredith A. Hmura who used them as research for her book, which is in the collection. Mountain View Ranch, 1915-1945, which is in the collection.

A scrapbook containing clippings from a series of articles about Black Jack Ketchum written by George Fitzpatrick and Joe Bursey for the New Mexico State Tribune, 1932. Thomas E. "Black Jack Ketchum was the leader of a notorious band of train robbers in the Southwest. He was hanged in Clayton, N.M. on April 26, 1901. The series of articles constitutes a biographical sketch of Ketchum from childhood through his death.
