Scope and Contents This folder has a 36-page mostly typed diary I kept of the Milagro Beanfield War film follies from May 13, 1986 to October 22, 1986. Page 8 is missing. Page 29 is actually a 5-page handwritten riff labeled 29 a-e. Pages 35 and 36 are handwritten. It's a funny and painful story. (Included is a description of Rini Templeton's June 27, 1986 Pilar memorial. [See RINI TEMPLETON in my EULOGIES FILES.]) I used these notes for an article, "Bob and the Beanstalk," published in American Film, May 1987....

FORM LETTER, JUNE 26, 1988

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 36
Scope and Contents My first form letter ever, I believe. I was totally exhausted from Milagro movie hoopla and my heart was going south. So I tried to answer letters this way.

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 37
Scope and Contents This short October 31, 1989 letter to me from Sally about shortage of cotton typewriter ribbons presages the end of my typing days. Nylon ribbons didn't work for me. I went kicking and screaming to computers, finally, in 1993.

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 39
Scope and Contents 44 mostly typed pages of the first half of my September 1990 journal. (2 pages at start are handwritten.) True pagination at top center of page. Also in this folder are: A Sports Afield article on North American Grouse and 4 envelopes with lists of vocabulary words I was using to write something. These pages could have also gone in my NOVEL NOTES files, because I was consciously recording my grouse-hunting hikes with an eye to writing the novel An Elegy for September. This journal describes...

BOOK TOUR FOR "THE SKY'S THE LIMIT" (ONE), OCTOBER 1990

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 41
Scope and Contents 70 pages. This tour was scheduled for New Mexico, Colorado, Chicago, Texas, California (L.A. and Bay Area), Arizona, Portland, Seattle. I made it through N.M., Chicago, and Colorado (October 12-27), then got sick (heart problems) and cancelled the rest of the tour. A tragedy, because Julie Grinnell, the Norton publicist, had worked incredibly hard to set up a great tour. In this folder: 1.) Pages 1-43 are tour scheduling and activities. 2.) Pages 44-48 are Norton publicity. 3.) Pages 49-69 are...

BOOK TOUR FOR "THE SKY'S THE LIMIT" (THREE), OCTOBER 1990

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 43
Scope and Contents This "fascinating" (ha ha) folder is full of business cards, plane tickets, envelope notes, rent-a-car agreements, and expense receipts I garnered from the Sky's the Limit book tour before it (or actually I) crashed and burned. A jumble of useless stuff, yet it contains lots of "information" for the fanatical researcher.

Scope and Contents Only 13 mostly typed pages and one envelope diary in this folder. (Envelope diary, p. 3, and p. 7 are handwritten.) BOOK TOUR FOR "ELEGY FOR SEPTEMBER" (TWO), MAY-JULY 1992

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 50
Scope and Contents This folder has my hotel bills, receipts for other costs, even receipts for renting rollerblades in Venice, CA! Also maps of Seattle and San Francisco. And an envelope full of business cards people gave me. What's the point? I suppose you can learn a lot about what I did, where I went, and what it cost a publisher to put an author on even a low-key, low-budget tour in 1992 by perusing this stuff. (See my book tour 1992 journal/diary in YELLOW MEAD NOTEBOOK, 1992 listed above.)
