SEPTEMBER 1-14, 1990

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 39

Scope and Contents

44 mostly typed pages of the first half of my September 1990 journal. (2 pages at start are handwritten.) True pagination at top center of page. Also in this folder are: A Sports Afield article on North American Grouse and 4 envelopes with lists of vocabulary words I was using to write something. These pages could have also gone in my NOVEL NOTES files, because I was consciously recording my grouse-hunting hikes with an eye to writing the novel An Elegy for September. This journal describes many hikes in canyons and up hills above the Rio Chiquito, Pot Creek, the Little Rio Grande SE of Taos. Wonderful country and weather. On some pages I taped bird feathers, grasses, insects found while hiking. (NOTE: FOR YEARS AFTERWARDS I CONSIDERED SEPTEMBER MY VACATION MONTH, AND SPENT MUCH OF THAT MONTH HIKING AND HUNTING AND TAKING VOLUMINOUS FIELD NOTES. FROM NOW ON MY SEPTEMBER JOURNALS ARE FILLED WITH THESE GROUSE-HUNTING FIELD NOTES.)
