"MILAGRO" FILM JOURNAL, 1986

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 28

Scope and Contents

This folder has a 36-page mostly typed diary I kept of the Milagro Beanfield War film follies from May 13, 1986 to October 22, 1986. Page 8 is missing. Page 29 is actually a 5-page handwritten riff labeled 29 a-e. Pages 35 and 36 are handwritten. It's a funny and painful story. (Included is a description of Rini Templeton's June 27, 1986 Pilar memorial. [See RINI TEMPLETON in my EULOGIES FILES.]) I used these notes for an article, "Bob and the Beanstalk," published in American Film, May 1987. See also "Night of the Living Beanfield," a speech I gave in March 1992 for UNM's Centennial Speakers series. The speech was adapted for Albuquerque Monthly, March 1994, and reprinted in my collected essays, Dancing on the Stones. This folder also includes an Albuquerque Journal Impact Magazine from October 20, 1987, with an excerpt from the introduction to my book A Fragile Beauty which gives a genesis of The Milagro Beanfield War movie going back to my first summer in New Mexico, in 1957. (For related "Milagro" material see my SCREENPLAY FILES, BOXES 41-43 and my MOVIE CORRESPONDENCE FILES, BOX 107, FOLDERS 46-57 and my PHOTOGRAPHY FILES [not yet inventoried].)
