Caja del Rio Grant Testimony

Abstract This collection contains testimony from the U.S. Court of Private Land Claims regarding the legitimacy of the Caja del Rio grant involving a legal dispute between the descendants of Nicolas Ortiz, Ni?o Ladr?n de Guebara (the original grantee) and Willi Spiegelberg. It also includes legal documents confirming genealogy of the Ortiz family and records of sales of this land in 1860 from the Ortiz family through various owners, to Thomas B. Catron in 1909.

Abstract Thirty six photographs depicting Camp Cody, near Deming, New Mexico, 1917. Camp Cody was established in 1917 as a training camp for National Guard units from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. The units trained at Camp Cody comprised the 34th Infantry "Sandstorm" Division. About 45,000 troops trained at Camp Cody between 1917 and 1919. The sanatorium represented healthcare in Mora County, New Mexico for over seventy years, first as a tuberculosis sanatorium with a hospital and 32 cottages and then as a community clinic.
