Scope and Content

Views of Mexico made by C.B. Waite, who worked in Mexico at the turn of the 20th century. These printing-out paper photographs are captioned and depict a variety of views that might be sold to travelers and tourists. They include markets, monuments, churches and altars, government buildings (the Capitol in Chihuahua), religious processions, popular celebrations and folk art ("judases" in Mexico City), Chapultepec Castle, harbor at Veracruz,... the aqueduct at Chihuahua, boats at Xochimilco, formations of "Rurales" militia, the Borda Gardens in Cuernavaca, Reproductions of paintings of Maximillian and Carlotta, their imperial coach, volcanoes, and a curious photo of the American Piano Co. in Mexico with movers carrying a piano (stamped C.B. Waite on verso). Prints are 5 x 8 in. See more
