WHEELER PEAK EXPEDITION, AUGUST 15, 1999

 File — Box: 182, Folder: 13

Scope and Contents

This album contains 21 color photos of an attempt by me, my ex-wife Ruby Nichols, and my pals Sam Orr and Andy Lenderman, to climb Wheeler Peak via the Bull of the Woods route on August 15, 1999. The trip was all bad weather and horrendous wind. We summited Mt. Walter and got within 60 yards of Wheeler Peak's top, then fled for our lives. Sam dropped out at the wilderness border because of a sprained toe. I published an essay about our climb in the November Taos Horse Fly newspaper, titled, "Into Pretty Thin Air." The published article is included in this album.
