Scope and Contents

48 typed pages of: More hiking up high above little rivers grouse hunting; working on my archives; rewriting Voice of the Butterfly; and a huge sorrow on September 22nd when my best friend, Mike Kimmel, died of a heart attack in New York. I flew back for the memorial. Mike and I hunted, fished, camped, hiked together almost every autumn since 1971. (See my EULOGY for Mike in EULOGY FILES, and in my collected essays, DANCING ON THE STONES, titled "Earl the Pearl Meets Rikki-tikki-tavi.") This folder also includes 4 envelope diaries numbered 1-4 covering dates from September 17 to October 4, 1997.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
