Carl Blumner Letters

Scope and Content Collection consists of handwritten originals, German typescripts, and typed English translations of letters from Carl Blumner to his mother Johanna Blumner and his sister Hannchen in Prussia concerning his and his brother August's activities in Santa Fe. Scope and Content Collection consists of Donaciano Vigil's military, family, and personal papers which span the Spanish, Mexican, and U.S. Territorial periods of New Mexico history. Spanish period documents contain land conveyances and abstracts of land primarily in Santa Fe (1770-1803), an inventory of civil and criminal proceedings (1766-1767), and a will (1820). Scope and Content This small collection consists primarily of reminiscences of Flora Spiegelberg, including original typewritten manuscripts of brief articles and published articles. Also included is a manuscript about Flora Spiegelberg and the Spiegelberg family written in 1975. The articles by Spiegelberg primarily concern life in the Territory of New Mexico in the late 19th century. Other articles are about New York City where the Spiegelbergs lived after leaving New Mexico.

James Josiah Webb Memoirs

Kit Carson Papers,

Scope and Content Collection consists of photocopies of both Carson's will and his certificate of appointment as an Indian agent; the original of his oath of allegiance to the U.S. as a Lt. Colonel; newspaper clippings on Carson. Also included is a photocopy of A.W. Thompson's essay "The Story of Camp Nichols." Carson established Camp Nichols in the Oklahoma panhandle to protect travelers on the Santa Fe Trail.

William Carr Lane Diary Transcript

Scope and Content One handwritten transcript of a diary written by Lane from 1852 to 1853, and one photocopy of the transcript. The diary provides details of Lane's trip over the Santa Fe Trail from St. Louis to Santa Fe, descriptions of Santa Fe and its people, and disputes over the United States-Mexico boundary. The transcript was used by Ralph E. Twitchell in the publication of Carr's diary in 1917.
