 Item — Box: 1, CD: 1

Scope and Contents

Performer: Greg Vigil

Gregorio Vigil, from St. Thomas Seminary, Denver, Co, talking to an Hispanic American book study club meeting in New Mexico. Vigil was commenting on the novel, In the Night I Sing, reported to be a true portrayal of Hispanic and Indian life in the Taos Valley, written by Joseph O’Kane Foster in 1942. Foster was from Chicago and in the 1920s had lived in Taos, thereby getting the idea for the book. Vigil was telling the book club members (Hispanics) how angry and critical he was of Foster’s biased and misinformed view of the New Mexicans. Vigil proceeded to praise them for what good people they really were.
