Scope and Contents
This was my first workshop. Ray called it: The Spirit of a Land. The folder contains: 1.) A couple of 1988 Owens Valley Photography Workshop catalogues. From here on Ray always printed one of my photographs in the catalogue, along with images by all the other guest instructors. 2.) An August 1988 View Camera magazine with a Ray McSavaney portfolio selection and an interview with Ray. 3.) A list of workshop participants. 4.) A tip sheet on how to keep your cameras from being stolen. 5.) A workshop schedule. 6.) 5 in-depth letters of instruction preparing participants for the workshop. 7.) 5 in-depth instruction sheets by Ray McSavaney on how to handle various exposure and darkroom challenges when making a photographic print. 8.) A small, beautiful pamphlet of Southwest photographs by Ray. 9.) An issue of California Scenic magazine with a portfolio of images by Ray McSavaney on pages 36-45. 10.) 6 letters between Ray and I getting to know each other and setting up my participation in the workshop. Access Restrictions
The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
