Ephemera:, 1962

 File — Oversize-Folder: 1

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection consists of publications, articles, ephemera, and Whiteford's personal notes relating to Semana Santa, or Holy Week. Most of the materials pertain to Holy Week in Spain (predominantly Málaga), however, some of the articles and publications relate to Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, and the Yaqui Indians in Arizona. Narratives describe the various processions and traditions carried out during Holy Week in various communities and cities. Issues of La Saeta document events in Málaga, Spain. Whiteford's notes provide insight into the history of Spain's cofradias (voluntary religious confraternities) and processions. Many of his notes are derived from the original manuscript, "Historia Documental de las Cofradias y Hermandades de Pasión de la Ciudad de Málaga" (Llordén, Andrés and Souvirón, Sebastián) prior to its publication by the Ayuntamiento de Málaga in 1969.

Much of the material in this collection is in Spanish.
