Scope and Content

This collection contains very early and some recent financial records for the university. The office has had various designations since the inception of the institution. It appears that from 1893 until the early 1920s the secretary-treasurer of the board of regents handled financial affairs. In 1922 (all dates approximate) a bookkeeper was appointed. After that the chief financial officer was known as the business manager (1924-1934), bursar (1934-1947), comptroller (1947-1993), vice president for finance and administration (1993-1999), comptroller (1999-2001), and vice president for finance/comptroller (2001- ).

Separated Material

The financial affairs of the university are also reflected in the minutes of the meetings of the board of regents. Budgets for the years 1990-2000 are housed in the Office of the Provost Collection, North Central Association Visit 2000, under “Budget”. Various reports and policy manuals of the business office also are found in that collection.
