Cañon del Agua Land Grant (N.M.)

Scope and Content Collection contains one field book (No. 2) of the Santa Fe Gold and Copper Mining Company. Notes, dated 1916, are land and encroachment surveys for the San Pedro Grant [granted 1820 near Placitas], San Pedro Placer Mining Claim, and Cañon del Agua Grant [granted 1844 near Placitas]. Book also includes notes for work done for A. E. Marsh.

Scope and Content This incomplete, bound, printed volume contains copies of various legal documents showing the history of ownership of the San Pedro and Cañon del Agua Grants from 1844 to 1880. There are deeds, field claims, briefs, decisions of the Surveyor General of New Mexico, descriptive notes of surveys, petitions of Jose Serafin Ramirez y Casanova, title of the San Pedro and Cañon del Agua Company, quitclaim deed from owners of Ortiz Grant and other legal documents.

Scope and Content Collection consists primarily of materials relating to the Tres Piedras Mining Company, including stock certificates and letters. Also within the collection are a newspaper clipping on fraudulent claims to the Canon del Agua land grant, an 1889 stock certificate from the Consolidated Mining and Investment Co., and a handwritten description (by an unknown author) of the Las Trampas land grant with an emphasis on the timber located there.
