Abstract

Abstract
Laurence McGilvery and his wife Geraldine owned and operated The Nexus bookshop and gallery in La Jolla, CA from 1960-1966. They expanded into antiquarian bookselling on art in 1965. The McGilverys knew Paula Hocks since the early 1960s and handled some of her publications. The papers consist of publicity and correspondence of a personal and business nature.

Mary Sprague Sketchbook

The sketchbook is undated. It appears to have been handmade, of Ingres drawing paper with gouache sketches of New Mexico tourism scenes and sites, including St. Francis Cathedral and La Fonda in Santa Fe, El Rancho in Gallup, and scenes (including of dances) from many northern New Mexico Pueblos. Facing pages contain watercolor sketches of pottery, weavings and kachinas, along with line drawing cartoons. The sketchbook covers have separated from the interior pages.
