The bulk of the letters in this collection (16) are written by ship chandler, Antonio-Fernandez Ceballos in Matanzas, Cuba to his “estranged" wife, living in Maine. The letters begin and end affectionately but carry a bullying tone. Caballos attempts to convince his wife to return to Cuba and generally report on whether or not he has received a letter from her, his and their children’s health, day to day events, and the weather.
