Biographical / Historical

As a University of New Mexico student beginning in 1960, Sue Sterling and her future husband Don often visited Don’s family in Crownpoint, New Mexico. There Don Sterling’s uncle and aunt, Don and Audrey Walker, owned and operated the Crownpoint Trading Post, a garage and a laundromat. Audrey Walker also ran the Post Office out of the Trading Post. Inspired by the stories she heard during these visits, Sue Sterling collected histories, recollections, documents and other material relating to the ranches and ranching life in the area. Sue Sterling was assisted in the gathering of this information by William Miller, Jr.
