Scope and Content

The collection contains photographic images compiled by César Graña, a Peruvian-born sociologist who worked and taught in Latin America, Spain, and the U.S. Graña was a specialist on Andalucia, and images in this collection depict Spain -- its art, history, culture, and society. Included are images of cathedrals, bullfights, Romanies, dances, religious processions. A small number of slides depict Peruvian subjects. Prints are 8 x 10 in. or smaller and slides are 2 x 2 in.

Biography

Born in Lima, Peru in 1919. Received a Ph.D in 1957, specializing in the sociology of knowledge, the sociology of the arts, and sociological theory. His main interest was the culture of Spain and particularly that of Andalucia. Died in Andalucia, Spain in 1986.
