Theodore E. Hedlund Photograph Collection

 Collection
Identifier: PICT-000-535

Scope and Content

The collection consists of photographs relating to Pershing's Punitive Expedition into Mexico in 1916. Most images are snapshots of army camp life. Some printed on postcard paper may have been commercially published and distributed. Camplife is discussed in Hedlund's articles for the Post, located in a scrapbook in the Manuscripts collections of the Center for Southwest Research. Camp pictures include: Hedlund at his typewriter in a... tent and with a captive wolf, cavalry, work details, soldiers on the rifle range and in the rifle pit, soldiers at a Catholic religious service, a bullfight, a military parade, army transport on poor roads, and two identified group portraits of the war correspondents from Massachusetts newspapers (including Hedlund) and major wire services. In one photo, a man who appears to be W. E. Lindsey (N.M. Lt. Gov. in 1916, Gov. in 1917) is shown at the camp with soldiers. See more
