History
The New Mexico Women's Political Caucus (NMWPC), a not-for-profit organization, was officially organized in 1973. Affiliated with the nationally based Women's Political Caucus, the goal of NMWPC was to promote the role of women in politics and raise awareness of women's issues through research, publicity, and lobbying. Activities included publishing informational brochures, organizing state and local conventions, lobbying for legislation, and promoting and encouraging women seeking political office. Issues of concern to NMWPC included abortion rights, the equal rights amendment (ERA), rape laws, child care, credit discrimination, and issues pertaining to women's employment, economic status, education, and property rights.
