Scope and Content

The John E. Nichols collection contains San Marcial land warranty deeds and title abstracts, 1884-1909. The collection also contains property tax records, and a court document involving the case of the San Marcial Land and Improvement Company vs. Simon Leyser. Several documents concern individuals who were instrumental in settling the area and establishing the town of San Marcial, including Pedro Armendaris, Martin Zimmerman, Thomas... Biggs, Edward S. Stapleton, and Wilson Waddington. Elfego Baca appears as a clerk on some of the documents. The collection was previously called the Louise Nichols Papers. See more
