Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This is a collection of New Mexico and Southwest themed first day of issue postage stamps. Most of the stamps are affixed to specially, and often, hand designed envelopes emphasizing the theme of the stamps.

Themes include:
  • Native American Art - Pueblo art, Navajo art, Art of the American Indian
  • Hispanic Culture - Rio Grande blankets, Mariachi, Piñatas, Food
  • New Mexico Historical Events/Anniversaries - Coronado Cuatro Centennial, Kearny expedition, Gadsden Purchase, Palace of the Governors, Robert H. Goddard, Spanish settlement, Statehood, Dennis Chavez
  • New Mexico culture - Ballooning, Georgia O'Keeffe, Smokey the Bear
  • Transportation - Locomotives, Railroad Mail Car, Oil Wagon
