    Biographical Information

Charles Lehman is a native New Mexican who grew up in Roswell. He has degrees in Economics and Mathematics from UNM, served as an Air Force officer during the Vietnam War and worked as an economist for over 30 years. Lehman also served as a State and regional workforce board director for New Mexico State Government, as well as on several state and national economic organizations' boards. He was named distinguished alumni by the UNM Department of Economics. He currently is the director of an economic consulting company in Santa Fe.

Charles began collecting worldwide stamps as a hobby in grade school and eventually decided to specialize in US postage stamps that had a New Mexico historical or cultural theme. On the day these stamps are released to the public and available in post offices nationwide there is a ceremony in the relevant New Mexico city. The event includes speeches by post office and state and local government officials and specially designed envelopes covers with the stamp postmarked “First Day of Issue.”

This collection of New Mexico first day covers was attained by attending the ceremonies, from stamp dealers, auctions, and stamp shows over the last 40 years.
