Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This memory book contains 24 pages of inscriptions, sometimes to “Josie” and sometimes to “Mercedes”, dating from 1889-1896. Several inscriptions are from her siblings Charles Adolphus Scheurich (then living in Antonito, CO), Dora Celestina Scheurich, and another sister who signed in a code. There are inscriptions from Taos merchant and Josephine’s godfather, Albert G. Muller; a sketch of flowers signed by W. F. Meyer (the son of the immigrant merchant Ferdinand Meyer who operated stores between Costilla and Taos), as well as inscriptions from Taos friends, and possibly from her future husband, Taos pharmacist Frank C. Ellis.
