Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection contains a sampling of business receipts from 1951-1958 for the Sahd's General Store and ranch operation, as well as personal receipts for items such as vehicle repairs, the Sahds' son's tuition to New Mexico Military Institute, and charities. The receipts reveal information on agriculture, clothing, advertising, furniture, medicine, firearms, diet, arts and crafts, and transportation for the northern New Mexico community of Pe?asco. Receipts are signed by store owners S. Peter Sahd, Patricia Sahd, and other family members, as well as employees. The business receipts include notes/letters from suppliers about overpayment or other problems concerning their orders. Some product invoices have shipping invoices attached. There are also receipts for licences and fees needed to operate the store.

The receipts show that the Sahd's did business with companies in St. Louis, Denver, Oklahoma City, Cleveland, El Paso and other out-of-state businesses. They also dealt with local businesses in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos like the Charles Ilfeld Company, Superior Baking Company, and Zork Hardware Company. The "Livestock folders contain receipts for the Sahd's ranch on the Santa Barbara River. The folders labeled "Individuals" have receipts for labor as well as goods such as local produce.

Receipts are arranged by year and then in alphabetical order. The few receipts from 1951 were grouped by Sahd with 1952 receipts and they have been retained in that order. Business receipts are first, followed by personal receipts which are also arranged alphabetically by year.

A small oversize section contains large receipts and sales flyers.
