Scope and Contents

Lecture to his Spanish class on archaismos (fair to poor recording, in Spanish, you can hear Cobos but some words are hard to understand, recording starts with him checking the names of the students in class, he talks about points for their grade, then he talks about the elements of the Spanish language in New Mexico, the words and expressions surviving from the Spanish past, not changed over time, archaic elements, words from Spain that came to New Mexico, in later years the Academia Real de Espana began to clean up the language in Spain and corrected and changed various words and rules, he gives some points of the history of the modern language in Spain, and also various examples of the words and expressions involved, and how also influenced Spanish in other countries, Spanish words in Latin American and rest of Spanish world, examples of words used in New Mexico and Southern Colorado, sounds, fricative, aspiracion, mixing of h, s, f, j, etc., closer to Latin than modern Spanish, verbs, vacabulario, also heard other isolated places in Latin America, Cobos said the next lecture will be on Mexican words in the language of New Mexico, he refers to a list of words that he gave the students and he reads examples from the list, some words had the letters reversed in New Mexico, discusses various words on the list with the students, differences in meanings, origins, when came to New Mexico, they add their comments sometimes, too, etc.).
