Scope and Contents
Lecture on indigenismos (fair to poor recording, in Spanish, noisy, hard to hear him and some words, gives a couple examples of Native American Indian terms, words from the Tewa, from the Pueblo people, their words that came into the Spanish language of New Mexico, from the time of the first settlement, Don Juan de Onate, San Juan Pueblo, during the colonial times the local Hispanics learned Tewa words, Cobos names various native groups, mentions some words known in Espanola, Santa Fe, Santa Cruz, etc., he adds in bits of local history as he goes along, stories and meaning, acoma, piedra blanca, Enchanted Mesa, kachina, Franciscans, Mechicas, Mexican Indians, Native Americans, Comanches, attack on Tome, 1760s, Pecos Pueblo, story of Villalpando, Taos, refers to map of Bernardo Miera y Pacheco, map showing the Comanches, who captured Spanish and Indians both and sold as them slaves, women, children, trade, buffalo hides, cuero, milpa, corn, Maya, trade from navajo, punche, etc., Then he begins to read from a list of words he provided the students, gives examples of Spanish words used in New Mexico, Spain and Mexico, etc.).
