Scope and Contents

Class lecture (in Spanish, fair to good recording, the reel was marked Pachuquismos lecture, but Cobos starts with a discussion with his class about their assignments and exams, they were to find and bring in notecards with new words to add to the list of Spanish words being collected, and then he moves on to a list of words he has prepared for them and reads and explains them, words beginning with r, s, etc. Then he talks about their upcoming class work on the elements of the Spanish language of New Mexico, introducing the idea of words from Spain, Nahuatl, English, etc. Then he lectures for the remainder of the CD on Pachucos, Pachuchismos, history of how this language, dialect developed, new words introduced into the Spanish language, during World War II Latino soldiers served all around the world and brought back words that they adopted into the speech of the Pachucos, gives example of Pachucos in a neighborhood settled by people from Pachuca, Mexico, and use of the word there, etc.).
