Scope and Contents

Abstract: 2/19/2013, 3/5/2013. In tape one, Francis discusses culture shock of leaving the reservation and attending an academic institution. She overviews her professional experience and her introduction to UNM Anderson School of Management in 1979. She also explains the developmental initiatives to support Native students and alumni, as well as specialized workshops, career fairs targeted for Native people. She concludes with emphasizing the need to form relationships and solidarity with Native initiatives across disciplines and departments. In tape two, Francis discusses challenges regarding retention and enrollment of Native Students into the UNM Business Program. In tape three, she concludes with discussion regarding the role of community in education, transitional strategies for youth attending higher education and the need to foster relationships internationally with other Indigenous peoples.
