Express Co. Journal, 1878-1880

 File — Box: 7, item: 5

Scope and Contents

Represents the record of L. & H. Huning as agents for several transportation and express companies. Mentioned in the entries: a brief summary of page headings is "Express Matter forwarded from Los Lunas Office," pp. 2 & 3; "Express Matter received in Los Lunas," pp. 4 & 5; "Passengers," pp. 6 & 7. A "Passenger" entry for Tranquelino Luna, 3 April [1879] records Luna purchasing a roundtrip ticket, Los Lunas-Santa Fe-Los Lunas, for $14.25. An earlier entry on Nov. 7, 1878, under "Express Received," identifies Tranquilino Luna as the recipient of a 45 pound "Trunk from Santa Fe via Pacific Orient Mail & Express Co." and indicates a transportation charge of $14.70. Luna's bold signature acknowledges receipt of the shipment. Express activity ended abruptly with the arrival of the Atlantic & Pacific Railway in 1880.
