GOODBYE, MONIQUE (27), June 2013

 File — Box: 188, Folder: 6-7

Scope and Contents

Dated June 25, 2013. Listed as Jmonique.14 on my computer. Folder contains two drafts with many corrections, scribbles, cut and paste. First draft labelled June 25, 2013 (and Jmonique.14 on my computer) is about Monique and David's youths, Monique comes to America, life at Peacock Point, and her diaries when she goes out west, to Santa Fe, Indian pueblos, Arizona dude ranch, work at Lab of Anthropology in Santa Fe, and each of her chapters are interspersed (alternated) with my dad's chapters of childhood, life at prep school, then his labors as field zoologist for American Museum in NY until he and Monique meet in autumn 1937. Then their courtship is described until Monique is ready to break engagement in late 1938. This ms. is 174 pages. (I'm trying to figure a structure to tell vibrant story of each of their backgrounds.) Second draft is labelled June 25-June 30, 2013. Same structure of alternating Monique's early life and adventures in America, with Pop's early life up until they meet. Many corrections, scribbles, cut and paste pages, also some corrections/inserts added May of 2014. This manuscript is only 133 pages. Ends just before David and Monique meet in 1937 at American Museum of Natural History. I keep trying to redesign/reconstruct the same material. Total of 307 pages.
