Scope and Contents

This manuscript is labelled "March 1, 2013, Fourth Draft," but I started hand-corrections of this ms. on May 24, 2013, and continued off and on until December 2013. Contains edits and inserts. Lots of cuts, scribbles, and chapter shiftings. Still covers Pop and Monique 1930s teen years, then they meet in 1937, marry at end of 1938, their marriage in Berkeley 1939-1942, and her death in Miami Beach on August 4, 1942. Followed by Pop joining Marines, marries Brownie, Marine training until 1945. Then a 25 page epilogue attempting to sum up book succinctly after Monique dies. 424 pages (with many corrections) and 25-page epilogue.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
