JOURNAL NOTES FOR "ON THE MESA", 1982

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 17

Scope and Contents

95 typed pages. True pagination at top center of page. This folder contains my typed journal/diary notes for January 19, 1982 (pages 1-4), and from June 30, 1982 to August 9, 1982 (pages 5-15), and from November 1, 1982 to December 20, 1982 (pages 16-95). Over many pages I was describing the mesa west of Taos with a book in mind. I wandered and photographed the mesa between 1981 and 1986 when On The Mesa (see ARCHIVAL BOXES 28-30) was published. In this folder many paragraphs are crossed out or checked as I transferred them into my book. This journal describes a great adventure in my life on the sparse mesa. (SEE 1991 KNME VIDEO DOCUMENTARY "THE SKY'S THE LIMIT," BASED ON MY MESA PHOTOGRAPHS.) In this folder, on page 16 (November 1, 1982), I discovered tiny clam shells in the bottom of a dry stock pond that triggered my intense desire to really learn about life in that barren area (more clamshells on p. 29!). Many of my mesa wanderings were shared by my girlfriend Sylvia Landfair.
