SUNDANCE INSTITUTE, JUNE 18-24, 1981

 File — Box: 136, Folder: 12

Scope and Contents

I was slated to work on a script for "The Milagro Beanfield War" with Robert Redford at his first Sundance Institute. Then the Writers Guild went on strike, killing our talks. Redford invited me to Sundance anyway. So I went, it was fascinating, but we never talked about Milagro. This folder includes 52 pages of information about, and schedules for, the 1981 Sundance Institute from June 19 to June 26. Including: Declaration of purpose by Redford and Robert Geller; program policies and procedures; directory of 1981 program participants; telephone directory of Institute and map of cabins; daily schedules from June 19 to June 26, 1981; list of Institute funders; biographies of participants and trustees; lists of acting ensembles and production teams; bios of the Sundance Institute staff, interns, and volunteers. Folder also includes many addresses and business cards I accumulated there. My plane tickets, envelope notes, a note from Redford's assistant, Robbi Miller and other useless ephemera. There's also a copy of Independent Film and Video Monthly magazine, Vol 4, No. 3. I roomed with Tony Bill and Waldo Salt, played our piano a lot, watched Waldo smoke enough pot to kill an elephant, and had a lot of fun watching all the participants in action. Drove back to Salt Lake City with Sidney Pollack tailed by a cop the entire journey.
