Scope and Contents

These 20 typed pages and 5 handwritten pages from May 5-August 28, 1980 (25 pages in all) are excerpted from an otherwise restricted journal. (True pagination at top center of page.) Covering: 1.) A trip with Andrés Martínez to Tres Orejas Mountain in search of blowholes and rattlesnakes. (Pages 6-10 are a handwritten description in Spanish of our hike.) 2.) Interviews with Isabel Vigil and her daughter, Evelyn Mares (later Valerio). 3.) Visit with my dad to my mesa land in Carson. 4.) Visiting mesa with my children. 5.) Fishing the Rio Grande alone, and with Charley Reynolds, and with friends. Pink check marks on right margins indicate material I considered for my book The Last Beautiful Days of Autumn.

Access Restrictions

The collection is open for research, however, researchers must sign consent form prior to gaining access to materials. Calavera drawings, proofs, and etchings as well as "little diaries" (Boxes 14, 125, 126, 129, 142) are housed in high security and may require up to 24 hours for retrieval. Enlarged photocopies and typed transcriptions of "little diaries" in Box 142 are located in Box 184.
