DRAFT NOTICES, 1961-1962

 File — Box: 135, Folder: 20

Scope and Contents

This folder has 4 documents and an address of an orthopedic doctor in Clinton, NY (or Utica). 1.) An Oct. 17, 1961 letter from Selective Service board telling me there's no way to know if I'll be drafted. (I wanted to know because I wished to spend a year after college with my grandmother in Barcelona, Spain.) 2.) A Nov. 2, 1961 notice from my Washington DC draft board transferring my Army physical to upstate New York. 3.) A Dec. 18, 1961 letter from my DC board setting up a Utica (ultimately Syracuse) physical in January 1962. (I took the physical, passed, then complained about my torn ACLs (from a hockey injury), and hit Syracuse for another physical...that I didn't pass, thank God.) 4.) A March 20, 1962 form finding me "not acceptable for induction under current standards." Hooray! 5.) Address of one Dr. Robinson whom I assume gave me documents about my torn ACLs to give to the Army. In the end, I went to Spain and wrote The Sterile Cuckoo while many of my cohorts were drafted and some sent into the early years of the Vietnam War. Folder has total of 5 pages.
