GENE LONG, HAMILTON X-COUNTRY, 1961

 File — Box: 135, Folder: 18

Scope and Contents

I ran cross-country my junior and senior years in college (autumns of 1960, 1961). Our coach was Gene Long. (See the March 18, 1966 article in "STAR AND A HALF, HAMILTON SPECTATOR, 1966-PUBLISHED VERSIONS in these files below.) This folder has Gene's 5-page training regimen (dated August 1961) and the envelope Gene mailed it in to me. (See related cross-country info in THE GOOD SCOUT, HAMILTON ARTWORK in BOX 114, FOLDER 11.) According to the envelope, this letter was forwarded to me from my dad's former house in Washington D.C., to his new home in Berkeley, CA., to me at my grandmother's summer home in Mastic, Long Island, New York! Typical. Folder also includes a photograph of our 1961 cross-country team with some of their names. Man in exact center is our captain, Phil Hineline (See 40TH. REUNION PHOTOGRAPH in a file above). Also in this folder: a tiny newspaper article from (I believe) autumn of 1960 about our defeat of Union College in which I was Hamilton's 4th man.
