Scope and Contents
Stationed in Hawaii until deployment. Describes his feelings on heading to war. Served with 2nd Battalion, Third Marine, heavy machine gun platoon. First mission was reconnaissance at the front with limited ammunition. Discusses concerns for Scud missiles and biological weapons; he was on guard duty during a Scud attack. Describes a number of experiences at the Battle of Khafji. Describes incident witnessing US Army truck that was taken prisoner. Experiences at Santa Fe Indian School prepared him for his military service. Describes return to the reservation; regrets not reenlisting. Describes seeing Iraqis surrender and learning about friendly fire that killed a number of Marines. Talks about missing family and feasts.
