Scope and Contents

Drafted in 1943. Sent to the recruiting center at El Paso, Texas; basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas. While stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, met President Franklin Roosevelt. Trained in Scotland. Landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, wounded in mouth. Describes fighting on the beach and in Normandy, Saint-Lô, Rhine. 29th Infantry Division. Wounded in leg at Saint-Lô. Ran into Kewa (Santo Domingo) medic at field hospital. Heels of boots blown off by strafing. Mentions that no one else there spoke his languange. Witnessed death of children. Called in artillery on German tanks. After being wounded, sent to hospital in Paris. Describes a fight with musicians for celebrating. Briefly describes associating with other Native soldiers. 57:06 Total.
