Drafted at age 18 in 1943 while working in Las Vegas, Nevada. Asked to interpret Spanish because of his surname. Describes a dawn attack in France, being wounded in the foot and hospitalized. Discharged in 1945. A number of elderly family members had died while he was away at war. Emphasizes the importance of speaking the language and preserving traditions. Likes visitors appreciating Pueblo traditions. Mentions a fellow soldier from San Felipe Pueblo in his division, killed in action. Mentions being asked for permission to build Cochiti Dam.
